What is the necessity of political parties?

It certainly is. A political campaign is nothing else than a race, and competition is what wins races. On the other hand, and as with any other issue or discipline, there must be rulers and oposition in order to create Democracy (not the one you hear about in everyone's mouths, but REAL democracy). Without an oposing party, you'd be living in a Dictatorship, in an absolutism regime, etc.

The freedom of speech, assembly and association (and many others) are widely regarded to be natural human rights. Under these exercises the assembly and speech of those of similar views (in this case political blocs) and objectives are a logical progression. The coalescing of such groups may find strength and organization in numbers. Political parties therefore are not question of necessity but personal choices of association.

Political parties are used to help voters decide which candidates fit their beliefs about government. For example, a person who cares strongly about the environment might decide to vote for someone who is running with the Green party, someone who cares about their individual rights might vote for the Libertarian Party, someone who supports lots of economic controls with fewer controls over civil rights might vote for the Democrat party, someone who believes in a strong national defense and strong economic rights might vote Republican.
