It was the ultimate stature to eradicate prejudice against anyone who was a slave, particularly African Americans. It was also a way of ensuring ex-slaves and anyone of a minority. Prejudice was still very much alive and well, and it wasn't until the Civil Rights movement did the real problem of prejudice start to be dealt with. Affirmative action was also an attempt to address the problem of prejudices. President JFK passed an executive order in 1961 for affirmative action, and President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965.

∙ 9y agoThe Fifteenth Amendment was necessary to give black men, who had once not even been considered citizens of the United States, the right to vote. This amendment banned any effort to prevent men from voting regardless of race, color of previous condition of servitude. With the help of newly politically empowered African-Americans, Republicans were elected to power. By the end of 1870, all former Confederate states had been readmitted to the union and most were controlled by the Republican Party.

∙ 6y agoIn 1870 the 15th Amendment to the US Constitution was passed. The reason for the amendment was to guarantee that all male citizens were eligible to vote regardless of race.
The amendment sought to remedy among other things the barriers placed against former slaves and others that kept them from voting. It also made it clear that former slaves could also hold public office and be elected to the same.
Previously some States had been using different methods and laws to prevent Afro Americans and Chinese people from voting.
