In the 1920s, society was changing dramatically. Women got the right to vote, millions of immigrants were settling here, there were new inventions (like radio), and a growing number of black people were moving north to seek a better life away from segregation.

Whenever there is social change, there is also a backlash. The rise of the Klan in the 1920s was undoubtedly a reaction to the increasing number of black people who were attending college, the new social roles for women, and the large number of immigrants now living in the USA. The Klan was able to run candidates for office in a number of states (and not just in the south) and was able to attract many new members. The Klan also held marches and ceremonies in numerous cities: for example, in 1925, the Klan held a large parade in Washington DC, which was seen by thousands of cheering people. And to further increase their reach, in 1927, the Klan purchased a radio station (WTFF) that broadcast their Propaganda into the Middle Atlantic states. Thus, the Klan was able to speak to those white, conservative Americans who were dismayed by the changes that occurred during the "roaring 20s." Klan doctrine appealed to these people because it promised a return to a time when everyone "knew their place." Klan leaders got lots of votes by pledging that immigrants, women, Catholics, Jews, and blacks would soon be returned to a subordinate status.

What stoped wegener from proving that the continents were once together?

One key factor that stopped Wegener from fully proving his theory of continental drift was the lack of a plausible mechanism to explain how continents could move. Additionally, Wegener faced resistance from the scientific community who were skeptical of his ideas based on the limited evidence he presented at the time. Lastly, the technological advancements necessary to provide compelling evidence for his theory, such as satellite mapping and deep-sea drilling, were not available during Wegener's time.
