since lava is so hot, it completely obliviates the organism, but leaves a hollow gap under the hardening ash an stuff where it once was, excavators find the hollow gap and fill it with plaster to resemble the shape of the bodies quite nicely, but not always perfectly
When the volcano erupted, the city of Pompeii got covered in lava, including the people who were still inside the city at that moment. The lava hardened and so, when the bodies decayed, it left holes in this hardened lava in the shape of the bodies at the moment they died.
Pompeii Victims' Bodies Revealed in Scans: Photos
As Pompeii was buried under 8 to 9 feet of material, bodies were encased in layers of hardened pumice and ash. Fiorelli's team found that their decayed corpses left voids. They poured plaster into the cavities, creating plaster casts of the impression in the ash.
The bodies were preserved as moulds formed by the volcanic ash that hardened round them. The bodies then rotted away leaving a hollow in the shape of the body that was once there.
scientists could see the preserved bodies of the victims and the whole town
no-one knows
Mostly everything was. Houses, (inside also), streets, churches, bodies... Basically the whole town as it slept in 79AD... is the same as it is now.
We have a wealth of knowledge about Pompeii because of careful excavations and historical research. The artifacts of Pompeii were almost perfectly preserved because of the covering of ash that the volcano left.We have a wealth of knowledge about Pompeii because of careful excavations and historical research. Pompeii is an Italian town, not far from Naples. It sits at the foothill of Mt.Vesuvius, which erupted in AD79 and completely demolished the town of Pompeii. The town was covered in a layer of ash and pyroclastic flow and many lives were lost. Many years later, the bodies of the victims were preserved in the ash after Fiorelli, an archaeologist used a special technique to preserve the bodies using plaster. Pompeii is now a thriving historical site that attracts many visitors each year.
Pompeii and Herculaneum were preserved (and also obliterated) after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Stabiae was also impacted, but not destroyed.
They preserved The Bodies of their dead.
The town was preserved by having been buried by volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Houses, street layouts, mosaics artifacts, tools and the like were found intact. Even the bodies of people in the position they were when people died were preserved.
they were dug up the ash preserved the stuff
It was preserved very well because it was covered in ashes by volcanoes just like Pompeii.
Biskupin was submerged in anaerobic swamp conditions. This oxygen-depleted environment preserved the ancient wooden structures in excellent detail. Hence its comparison to Pompeii. It is one of the best preserved archaeological finds ever.
