The Titanic had 29 boilers constantly burning coal. There were three functioning funnels on the Titanic, directly connected to the boilers. Each of the three active funnels served two boiler rooms. The fourth was partly functional, carrying smoke up a smaller chimney in the forward half from the galleys. The remainder of that funnel served as a ventilation shaft for the engine rooms.
Titanic had four funnels for one real reason: Four were more aesthetically pleasing than three. White Star Line (Titanic's operator) was in direct competition with Cunard Line (which owned the ships Lusitania and Mauretania; both had four funnels each). The employment of four funnels made the Titanic look more impressive, and created an effect of symmetry.
Simply put, the Titanic didn't actually have any real NEED for four funnels. She had 29 boilers, most of which were housed directly beneath the first three funnels. As designed, the flow of boiler exhaust didn't require the extra capacity of a fourth funnel.
The fourth funnel wasn't entirely unused, however. It provided additional ventilation to accommodations immediately adjacent to its casing (the surfaces on the interior decks of the ship which border the funnel leading all the way down to the engine room) in addition to the engine room, and I believe a small galley which serviced the A La Carte restaurant. Additionally, the 1st cl. Smoking Room on A deck was directly forward of the fourth funnel, and had a functional, coal-burning fireplace. The flue from this fireplace can be seen in pictures of the boat deck extending from the decking above the Smoking Room into the fourth funnel.
I believe that one of the final pictures taken of Titanic at anchor in Queenstown shows a stoker who climbed to the top of the fourth funnel to catch a glimpse of the harbor. This was considered very ominous later, considering the unfortunate demise of the liner and 1,500 of her occupants.
They had the fourth one to make the ship look bigger. Decorative piece, not used as the other three were.
Only three funnels were connected to the Boiler Room, the fourth one was for 'show' only, to balance the design of the ship
It was put there to make the ship look more balanced.
The 4th one is just for looks
the back one was fake! as an average steam ship had 4 funnels so they added an extra one.
how many funnels (smoke stacks) did the titanic have?
Four, however only the first three were used. The fourth one was added for ventilation for the kitchens and for symmetrical foundation. There were 4 smoke funnels on the Titanic, but, only 3 of them allowed smoke to escape from the engines. The fourth one was just there for show. A ship with 4 smoke funnels looked more impressive than a ship with only 3 funnels.
There was 4 but only 3 were real they added a dummy funnel to make it look more power full
The Titanic looked like Queen Mary: 4 funnels, 2 masts, 1 propellor on the bow and starboard of the ship and one in the Well, located beneth the poop deck. The name "TITANIC" on her bow and "TITANIC, LIVERPOOL" as a strip on the Stern. Titanic was one of the first ships to look like a city on the ocean
They were four, Three were real, the fourth one was a dummy. It was only there to make the ship look more powerful

There were 4, but only 3 were working. The 4th was out on for show to make the Titanic look more impressive.

The fourth funnel was built for aesthetic purposes. The other three funnels dispered the steam generated.
Titanic means of great force or power and it had 4 smoke stacks, which was amazing back then. But the 4th stack was to make it look like the best ship. ADDED: it was the size and speed of the Titanic and her 2 sister ships (Britannic and Olympic) that made them "amazing", not the number of funnels. In fact one of the funnels was part of the ventilation system, not involved with the vessel's propulsion, even if it helped give an impression of great power.
there looked as if there were 4 funnels but there were only 3. the real ones were the 3 at the front which helped move her along. the one at the back was ventilation and was added for power.

The titanic did not float because it was only able to float if 4 or less water compartments flooded instead more did and it was to much for the titanic to hold and sadly many people died.
the titanic was flooded because an iceberg struck the ship which filled the first 5 compartments when only 4 compartments can be filled in order for it to still stay afloat.
