The dog could have ingested something poisonous, or could be experiencing the beginnings of chronic kidney failure. This isn't the only symptom. If you observe anything else, like his urine or stool, or habits in drinking and eating have changed, that would make for a better question as to why it is vomiting.
Write down your observations in a notebook and visit a good vet.

∙ 15y agoMy puppies been sicking up bile when hes alone sleepin downstairs and we find the stains under the table in the morning; apparantly its got alot to do with if he was running around before bedtime, and having a drink, or if hes been getting upto mischeif when were sleepin and goin a but hypa then has a drink, they then feel the need to bring their water backup.

Throwing up bile often happens early in the morning. An extra Milkbone given to the dog before you go to sleep can help stop vomiting bile, as can feeding your dog several smaller meals throughout the day, instead of feeding just once or twice a day.
