Nowadays, many of those who are left and with their ethnic identity intact often struggle with alcohol, drugs, and gambling addiction, all due in part to all the hardships inflicted on them by non-indigenous Americans. When you systematically attack a group of people and take their ethnic pride, they often turn to self-destructive behaviors.
