Why won't the 4x4 work in a 1998 Expedition when the indicator lights say it is in 4x4 and click is heard in xfer case but front wheels don't get power?

I had this issue and there is a motor that ingages and puts it into 4 wheel drive. My motor was not working and I needed a new one at a cost of 900.00 installed. I also had this problem with my 97' Expedition.....the mechanic found that it was a faulty switch Cost was aproximately $140.00 (part and labor)....it's been working fine since
