Most likely because it is starved of potassium. I place a ripe banana under mine and allow it to decompose.

Did you use rocks/tiles over the bottom of the plant to keep the roots cool? Did you make sure it got a lot of sun (and by a lot, I mean a lot)?

It needs frequent watering and rich potting soil. Also, adding a new bulb or two helps to stimulate the flowering of its companion plant.
