Why wont the dishwasher empty?

Many times this caused by food particles clogging the screen or blocking the jets on the spray arms. Find the screen in the bottom of your machine and clean it out. If this doesn't help, remove the spray arms and clean them out.

If your dishwasher won't dry when drying is selected, the heating element in the bottom is probably broken. If this is the case you should repair it or replace your dishwasher. The other purpose for this heating element is to superheat the water while washing your dishes to sanitize them. If it is broken you will not be getting this sanitizing effect.

When your dishwasher begins to leave food particles on your dishes either on the top or bottom racks, your filter needs to be removed and cleaned out in the sink, then replaced. Consult your owners manual on how to remove the filter. If you don't have an owners manual, Google your machine's model and you should find the manual in a pdf file.

If your dishes aren't being cleaned, on the top rack, make sure you aren't covering up the hole in the middle of the top rack, water needs to spray up through that hole during the cycle.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you may need to replace the machine, maybe it is too old now.
