A solenoid is a component that controls a great many different things on a car.
If you have one inside the transmission leaking, this one is supposed to seal or release a system in side the transmission and the seal portion can go bad.
If we are talking about the starter solenoid, it has no oil to leak. If it looks like it is then we have 1 of two problems.
- The solenoid has gotten much to hot and the insulation inside has melted, separated and dripped out.
- There is something above it leaking and dripping on it.

An oil leak is always going to be out of the engine as the engine contains oil and the car does not. I think you are saying you are loosing oil with no apparent leak. If that is the case the engine is burning oil and that is why you see no leaks.

If you leave off an O-ring or don't lube the gasket on the oil filter, then it could leak. Generally this will not leak very fast. Sometimes an engline will leak oil into the coolant system and it will be carried to your radiator. This will turn the water a chocolate milk color.
