Why would a nearly 10mp digital camera take blurry close-up pictures?

[Edit]

Answer

All lenses require a certain minimum distance from the subject. This has nothing to do with the megapixel rating of the camera.

One could interpret "blurry" a few different ways: 1) out-of focus...this is lens related. 2) jagged/blotchy...this is megapixel related. 3) streaky...this is caused by movement.

Assuming that you meant #1, do a little experimenting to find the minimum in-focus distance. Most lenses require ~3-4 feet, but there are definitely exceptions. Also, look for a "Macro" setting...this is solely for closeups.

Finally(and this will hurt a bit): Amateurs think cameras *take* pictures...pros use cameras to "make" pictures. Learn the limitations of your camera and work within them to create wonderful pics.

When you are taking a "close up" picture,

you most always should use a tripod.

That close is very sensitive for movement of any kind....even if you had a 15 megapixel.. :-)

......another tip....if you are taking a closeup or any picture where your shutter speed is going to be below 100th, put it on a tripod,

and set it to "self timer", and shoot the picture. ABSOLUTELY no camera shake.
