Why would a valplast partial be painful and hard to get in and out even after having it adjusted three times?

Keep going back to the dentist until he/she makes it right. That's HIS/HER responsibility. It will take a few times to get it to fit exactly as it is supposed to. And, if it gets to the point where enough material has been removed for a proper fit, then they will have to start over again with another one.
answerThe problem existed all the way from the start. A bad impression is usually the culprit for such a problem. In regards to valplast being adjusted 3x, the materials used in that system are very hard to adjust evenly and smoothly. Your best bet is to go back to the doctor and have them start over. There should be no excess charge to you as this should be taken up with the doctor/ lab.Answer
One thing that should definitely be done: The denture should be dipped into very hot water for a few seconds. This will soften the material a bit and allow it to more comfortably adapt to the patient's mouth.
Unlike metal clasps, valplast clasps do not fatigue as much, so if it is tight against the patient's tooth or gum, it is likely to stay that way. The hot water bath should help. If not, the offending clasp or area of denture base needs to be adjusted either mechanically or with direct heat (flame or hot instrument). Adjustment of Valplast material if extremely difficult and techinique sensitive and should not be attempted by anyone other than a Dentist or Dental Lab Techinician.
