Why would people move from the rust belt states to the sun belt states? |

A major reason is also weather. Rust Belt cities like my nearby city of Baltimore can try to diversify economies, but why would people move there when they can live someplace like Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Raleigh, Tampa, Houston, or Dallas with nicer people, warmer weather, and more sunny days? What about the beautiful scenery of the southern and western states vs. the grimness of northern landscapes? Who would NOT want to live in a place where the sun shines almost every day, where the temperatures never get below 50 or 60 and where you have palm trees and blue skies?
In Maryland, I am cooped up indoors for half the year, usually from mid-October all the way through April. The winters here have to be experienced to be believed. They are bitterly grim, gray, and cold. Everyone's mood changes during the winter. The cold and snow makes a lot of people depressed. It really gets to you. If you are very rich you can afford to go on Florida regularly for vacation but when I have a family, I'd rather live someplace in the Sunbelt and escape the summers than live here and try to escape the winters...good luck with kids in school.
