Some cameras require that you save the picture to the card. If you don't save them the picture can be seen in the camera or even if the camera is plugged in to the computer.

they may well be in jpeg format but there are other things saved in jpeg other than the pixels of the image, such as camera make, time of capture, aperture etc that can't be controlled manually, which are essential for the camera to recognise images as "it's own", and therefore display them in the playback. I've tried the same thing with my camera.
Pictures of the cameras themselves, or pictures that were taken from the camera? If it is pictures of the cameras themselves, Google Images works fine. For pictures that were taken from the camera, go to Flickr and type in the camera model to see its pictures.
If you have a upload wire for your computer, or a memory card reader, you should be able to upload the pictures and print them directly from your camera by attaching it like that into the computer. That's how i normally do it.

Advantages of a conventional camera include the fact that they usually take better pictures. The images and colors are better on a traditional camera.
I think that all depends on what you want to do with the pictures. Are you planning just have the images on your computer or actually print them out. If your planning to print images the higher the megapixel, the larger you can print your pictures.. I would suggest getting a camera with no less than 6 megapixels. 6 megapixels max - unless you are doing medical photography.
