You body takes a different turn before, during and after your periods. So, when your hormones are reacting they tend to cause different sensitiveness in your body depending on individuals. Some do get tender breasts like you, backaches, headaches etc. It should go away in a day or two after your period depending on how sensitive you are.
If you drink a lot of caffeine that could be your problem. I had the same thing and my doctor told me to lay off the caffeine for 2 weeks and I felt an improvement.

In my experience I was on the shot for atleast 3years and I never had a normal period either. In fact I didn't have a period at all. You may just be having your period and it has not been normal so I think you need to go to the doctor.
