You body takes a different turn before, during and after your periods. So, when your hormones are reacting they tend to cause different sensitiveness in your body depending on individuals. Some do get tender breasts like you, backaches, headaches etc. It should go away in a day or two after your period depending on how sensitive you are.

If you drink a lot of caffeine that could be your problem. I had the same thing and my doctor told me to lay off the caffeine for 2 weeks and I felt an improvement.

If you have been on Depo Provera for 6 years and never get a normal period what could it mean if you start cramping and bleeding and your breasts are tender?

In my experience I was on the shot for atleast 3years and I never had a normal period either. In fact I didn't have a period at all. You may just be having your period and it has not been normal so I think you need to go to the doctor.

Why do your breasts hurt before a period?

Breasts can become tender before menstruation as a result of hormonal imbalance, higher levels of estrogen can cause the ducts of the breasts to swell and become tender. This is a common symptom of menstruation but shouldn't be considered normal, it can be reduced by regulating hormones or if it continues you should talk to your doctor about the problem.
