Young's experiment aimed at observing interference of light waves. To observe clear interference patterns it is necessary to use monochromatic sources.

Using monochromatic sources are coherent with constant phase difference so the interference pattern remains same on screen with passage of time. But using just any source will give a changing phase difference and a changing interference pattern which is difficult to observe.

What is the discovery of Thomas Young about light?

thomas young carried out his (double slit experiment) where he discussed the interference of light waves using monochromatic light . the 2 slits act as 2 coherent sources which emit light with same amplitude frequency . interference fringes appear due to superposition of light . this experiment is also used to determine the wavelength of monochromatic light. from the relation y=wavelength*distance between 2 slits /distance between the 2 slits and the screen where the fringes appear . where y is the distance between 2 successive bright or dark fringes.

Why are two independent sources of light used to illuminate the two slits in Young's double slit experiment?

You have to correct the question as,Why are two independent sources of light not used to illuminate the two slits in Young's double slit experiment? We need coherent sources. But two independent sources would emit waves with varying phase difference which makes waves non coherent.

What will be the resulting spectrum if use a monochromatic light instead of sodium vapour lamp in diffraction grating?

You will observe a series of bright and dark fringes uniformly spaced, of the color of the monochromatic light used.

What is the advantage of monochromatic light?

This solution iswhere source versatility is important. You can change condensers easily and have a wide selection of secondary focusing lenses to match any monochromator. The collimated beam path gives flexibility in where to locate the hardware. Accessories are available for pre filtering or spatial manipulation of the beam from the lamp housing. In the IR, where glass lenses do not transmit, an IR element is used with an reflector. best for applications

How many colors are in a laser beam?

A laser, by its very action of amplification of light, tends to be monochromatic. (one colour). But lasers may be made in several different colours depending on the materials used.

Can you give a sentence for the word monochromatic?

This place used to be so colourful, but now they have painted it all the same colour it is drab and monochromatic.

What is a pharyngeal gill?

Pharyngeal slits are not gill slits. They are filter-feeding organs in non-vertebrates, and are used to strain matter and food from water.

What color belongs to monochromatic color scheme?

Any and all colours can be used in a monochromatic colour scheme. As long as you only use ONE. You may use as many shades of that colour as you choose, but only one colour. Mono (one), chromatic (colour).

What is fringe width?

Fringe width is a term used for the width of the first maxima in diffraction. It can also be found by calculation by dividing the wavelength of the light input multiplied by the distance between the slits and the screen by the space between the slits.

What is a color plan that consists of different values of one color is called?

Monochromatic - is whereone colour is used but in different valuse and intensity.
