Straighten up that spelling, give that grammar an upgrade and correct that capitalization! We're having an Answers.com Spring Cleaning contest for editing unanswered questions on the weekend of March 27th and 28th. First prizes are $300 Amazon.com gift cards and 2nd place winners receive $200 gift cards as well.
Learn more about how to edit questions properly.
The aim of the game is to improve the most questions (only unanswered questions count!) in 48 hours. Note that question edits will be reviewed and if we find participants changing questions in a way that does not improve them, improving the same question multiple times, improving questions they asked themselves, or other suspect activities (more of these are detailed below) they may be disqualified.
The question editing contest begins at 12:00 am (EST) on Saturday (late Friday night), March 27, 2010. The event ends 48 hours later, at 11:59 pm (EST) on Sunday, March 28, 2010.
Only question edits that are posted within this time frame and in accordance with the contest rules will be counted as part of the contest. Be sure to read through the rules listed below before you start.
There are tiers for both supervisors and other contributors.
The FIRST PLACE winner in each tier will receive a $300 Amazon.com gift card.
Two SECOND PLACE winners in each tier will each receive a $200 Amazon gift card.
Three THIRD PLACE winners in each tier will each receive their choice of an Answers.com blanket, chess/backgammon set, or other pre-specified merchandise.
Twenty runners up will receive Answers.com merchandise.
Tips
- Find unanswered questions to edit in specific categories at http://wiki.answers.com/Q/NEWQ
Alternatively, you can do by going to the category's Unanswered Questions page. You can find a link to that under Category Tools in the left hand menu.

- Perform searches for commonly misspelled words in unanswered questions.

- Split off alternate wordings which are asking something different than the primary question and then improve those new primary questions.
Rules
- Each contest participant must be a registered Answers.com® user. Users must be logged-in during the event in order to qualify for recognition or a prize.
- For an edit to count towards the goal it must be an improvement to the question's spelling, grammar, phrasing, or capitalization. Contest participants who edit the same question twice may have such question edits be ineligible to be counted towards the goal and/or be disqualified from the contest. Edits of questions that the same participant had asked on Answers.com are ineligible to be counted towards the goal and may cause the participant to be disqualified from the contest.
- Participants who split out many alternate wordings (and then edit the new primary questions) which should have instead been split and merged into each other may be disqualified. Participants who unnecessarily split out valid alternate wordings in order to edit them as primary questions may be disqualified. Any other activities Answers.com staff deem to be counter to the spirit of the competition may be ineligible to count towards the goal and cause the participant to be disqualified from the contest.
- The winners' edits will be reviewed for compliance by a panel of judges comprised of Answers Corporation staff. Judges' decisions are final and binding.
- Data pertaining to the contest will be collected as soon after the end of the contest as possible and will tally edits of questions that are unanswered at the time of the data collection.
- Fully or partially automated users are not eligible to participate in the contest.
- Participants must be 13 years of age or older in order to compete in the event. Employees, consultants or board members of Answers Corporation and affiliated companies, and their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter the contest. Answers.com volunteer Supervisors may participate.
- Winners will be contacted via their Answers.com Message board and/or e-mail, no later than April 7th, 2010. Winners will be listed on Answers.com and the no.stupid.answers blog, and may also be published in our newsletters and a press release. Upon notification, winners will have 5 days to respond in order to claim their prize. Failure to respond via e-mail means that the winner has forfeited his/her prize and the judges may award it to another qualified participant.
- Winners may not request substitutions of prize winnings. All winners are responsible for any and all taxes and/or fees associated with the prizes.
- Answers Corporation will NOT gross up any prize amounts to cover possible taxes. Winner will be responsible for any local, state and/or Federal taxes conferred upon any prize amount, as well as any other incidentals or costs associated with claiming the prize.

Form W-9, and provide any additional information that may be required by Answers Corporation.
