Why did the actor who played AJ leave the show criminal minds?

AJ Cook will not be returning as a series regular in season six, due to the production company opting not to renew AJ Cook's contract, but she will return for two episodes to wrap up her storyline.

The decision to cut Cook was made for creative reasons. A new actress will be brought in later in the season to fill the void left by Cook.

Well A.J Cook (the actress who plays JJ) wanted to come back to do more seasons of Criminal Minds, but the Criminal Minds producers didn't want her back. They denied her contract. I am not sure why. Maybe she was difficult to work with. I really liked her but all well.

NO she wasn't difficult to work with. The entire cast signed the petition to try to save her and Paget. Their comments on Twitter showed they were as stunned as the rest of us. She got fired because the CBS Execs have gone to a testoterone loaded schedule this year. Haven't you noticed? Outcries of sexism have been coming at them ever since the announcement was made. Then look at their fall line-up. They claimed financial reasons at first, then back-peddled and said it was for creative reasons. Fan Feedback has been pretty largely in favor of the sentiment that CBS has screwed Criminal Minds. Unlike the former two actors who left by choice, both AJ and Paget are popular and no one has really been happy about the hand dealt to them by the network. CBS is trying to fix what "ain't broke" - so brace for viewer reaction. There are alot of people vowing to discontinue watching.

JJ didnt acctually 'get the boot' i dont know why she as gone for most of one of the seasons (i carnt remeber a min) but she does apper sometime after the season she leaves then she comes back for seasons 6 and 7 i think... :/

On the show: JJ became pregnant in real life with her first child, & the show wrote her pregnancy into the script. She eventually went on maternity leave. Her son on television ("Henry") is actually her real life son. Eventually, JJ was forced to accept a position at The Pentagon & stopped appearing as a regular.

In reality: She was released from her contract due to budget cuts. After backlash from fans, she was rehired.

She didn't permanently leave, she was on maternity leave because she was pregnant. She came back a month or so ago.
