Since the marriage of Princess William and Kate Middleton, Prince and Princess William of Wales have been given a royal dukedom by The Queen and are to be known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Catherine will be known formally as Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. Her other name, as the wife of Prince William of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, will be Princess William.

She was not born a princess so she is not (yet) Princess Catherine.

When the current Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) ascends the throne upon the death of The Queen and becomes King Charles III (or perhaps King George VII), the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will become the Prince and Princess of Wales as well as Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Lord and Lady of the Isles... at this point Catherine will become HRH Princess Catherine of Wales.

No, she does not.

The style "Prince of Wales" refers to a single specific person: traditionally, though not automatically, the heir apparent to the British throne. As of this writing, that's Charles, William's father (and Kate's father-in-law). Camilla, Kate's mother-in-law, is entitled to be styled as Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, but instead prefers to use the style Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall (or, in Scotland, of Rothsay), probably because "Princess of Wales" is so strongly associated with Diana.

William was, up until 29 April 2011, known as His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, with the "His Royal Highness Prince" part being because he's the grandchild of the reigning monarch and the "of Wales" part being because his father is, well, the Prince of Wales.

If William had not been granted the title Duke of Cambridge, Kate's official style would have been Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales. Since he was, she's Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.

When/if Charles ascends to the throne, Kate (assuming she's still married to William) will immediately become Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Rothsay. However, she won't automatically become Princess of Wales unless/until Charles confers the title Prince of Wales upon William.

No, right now she is to be called Duchess and if she was she would have been known as Princess William of Wales since she is not a Princess by birth
