This required a new antenna. Apple never made an iPhone 3G with the CDMA antenna sadly; they did make a CDMA version of the iPhone 4, though. Then, when the 4S came out, the phone had both GSM and CDMA antennae in one phone. So, in the end, Verizon is a proud seller of iPhones, just not the original, 3G, or 3GS.
