Well, it's not SUPPOSED to but I just purchased 3 rings from a very reputable company and was astonished that after less than 24 hours of wearing one of the rings my finger is green...and not just a little. I'd be weary of anything that is plated, for the plating can wear away revealing what is underneath. It's worth the extra cash to just get something that is what it is supposed to be (gold, silver, platinum) and not plated.
The green coloring is caused by oxidation. Contrary to popular belief, gold and silver can do this to you as well. Best bet is to do a Rhodium plating or sterling silver. Also make sure the item is nickel free. If the acidity level in your body is too high, this is what reacts to the metal causing the green. Give it a couple of weeks, and it should stop happening. Plating is just not going to come off unless you are rubbing the item up against metal,etc. You also may want to look at bonded metals such as gold or silver bonded. You are getting the same look, for a fraction of the price. And yes it is real silver and gold being bonded to a base bronze metal. Fill is different.
So in summary, the green i actually caused by the acidity level in your body reacting to the metal which can also happen with gold or silver. Either fix the acidity level in your body, or wait a couple of weeks and see if it fixes itself.

∙ 8y agoIt all depends on what the alloy mixture is. An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements. Metals like nickel, copper and brass are often found in the alloys of cheaper rings and they will tarnish and/or turn your finger green. If you do have a ring like this, you could try painting the inside of the ring with clear nail polish before it is worn. But if it is already turning your finger green it probably won't help.
