How do you clean tarnish off of gold over sliver earrings?

Gold jewelry doesn't actually tarnish, but sometimes it can appear that way because of the other metals mixed in with it. According to ColorSpark Studio, because gold is soft, it is often mixed with other metals to become an alloy; "the silver and copper in the alloy may react to the oxygen, sulphur and moisture in the air and eventually turn the gold jewelry dark." Gold jewelry also can get a dirty appearance from oils or lotions from your skin. To clean your gold jewelry, all you will need is some common household items; no need for expensive jewelry cleaners.

Will 925 18k gold tarnish?

.925 is a silver content. Sterling silver being 92.5% or higher silver content, the remaining alloys are 7.5%. Some alloys may slow tarnish, but there is no alloy that will eliminate the need for polishing. .750 or 18k gold wont tarnish but may change color with age depending on the remaining .250 alloys. If you are asking if 18k gold plating over a .925 sterling silver base will tarnish, the answer will be when the goldplating has worn off exposing the base metal to the elements, It will tarnish like any other silver.

yes I sell jeewelry for a living, a silver dip or polish can be damaging to your gem stones. This is going to sound crazy but it works. Get a small glass bowl, line it with aluminum foil, shiney side up Put your silver jewelry on the tin foil Cover your silver jewelry with baking soda Pour boling hot water over it until it is completley covered Do it in a sink, the reaction causes fizzing and it may fizz over the edge of the bowl
