Will insurance cover damage to your house when a tree damages it while being removed by you or a contractor? |
[Edit] |
Answer
No, it generally needs to be an "act of God" The contractor should have insurance that would cover it. If you did it, you are SOL. 4lifeguild
Answer
If the tree fell because of a contractor, they should be bonded and insured (therefore will pay for all damages). If it fell while you were removing it, then your home owners insurance will cover it after you have paid the deductable. If the deductable is $1000 and it costs $1200 to fix it, then it wouldn't be worth filing a $200 claim. Your rates go up by as much as 30% when you file any claim. Do the math and decide for yourself which is the best plan of action.
