A new spouse is not directly responsible for the financial obligation to minor children. His or her credit standing will not be affected, the status of his or her earnings would not be a factor, or anything of that nature.
However, if the couple share a joint bank account and the obligated parent fails to meet his or her support duties the account can be levied by court order. When that occurs, obviously the non-obligated spouse becomes financially involved.
