Tizanidine
known also as Zanaflex
has been known to cause false positive drug screens. There are two major chemical classes commonly tested for which Tizanidine
may cause false positive. It is known that due to its chemical structure similarities to clonidine
it may commonly cause false positive for the chemical class benzodiazepines.
Tizanidine
mixed with other chemicals may also cause false positive for THC. One combination which could possibly cause a THC false positive and is typically prescribed for muscle spasm and Back pain is Tizanidine
and Tramadol.
This phenomenon is less heard of or understood. Tramadol
is a non-narcotic
pain reliever which works on synapses extremely similar to opiods.
Tramadol
is synthetic yet at higher doses has also been known to cause false positives for opioids.
The false positive for opioids
is much less common than the occurrence between the Tizanidine
and Benzodiazepines.
The specific statistics behind percentiles and other related causes such as rate of metabolism, age, race, gender or disease is unknown but highly probable to play a part in all occurrences. Theses finding have not underwent extensive clinical trials.
