Will you lose weight if you eat one meal a day? |
[Edit] |
Answer
You should be eating 4-6 smaller meals a day if you would like to lose weight, eating one meal a day will slow your metabolism (your body goes into starvation mode) and may have the opposite effect as soon as you start eating normally again.
Answer
Every metabolism will react differently to this, however you should know if you are not getting the proper nutrition your body will react the same.
This will be worse if you are doing the one meal a day, your body will try to burn more nutrient rich parts of your body like muscle tissue or brain tissue before it will burn fat. This by the way will destroy your metabolism in the long run.

I did the eating one meal a day after reading this website. I did it for 2 months and lost 12 kg very quickly. I was exercising everyday too and my meal was always very healthy eg. veggies and fish or chicken or a wholewheat sandwich with smoked salmon. I have never felt better doing this. I never obsessed about food but just ate once a day and knew that that was it for the day. I did experience some hunger pangs in the beginning but after a week I had so much energy, my skin was so clear, my concentration better than ever before and I felt so good about myself. I have PCOS and went to a dietitian who said that I need to eat 6 times per day and she told me what to eat during these times. I never had any type of eating disorder but after being told what to eat and when, I developed an obsession about food which made me binge on sweets. This was 2 years ago and continued the whole time up until now when I started the one meal a day thing. Don't want to gross anyone out but when I was doing this, my period returned and I got it consecutively every month.
I recommend doing this.
Alternative view:
You will definitely lose weight but positive long-term weight loss is about how much and what you choose to eat. The weight loss and skin improvement is due to cleansing. I never recommend eating less than three to five times a day. I am from a family of heavy women, wore a healthy ten and now a strong four. It's better to begin big and trickle down as the day progresses. Start with dinner, and eat smaller but eat even when you don't want to, do not let four hours pass without sitting next to a pretty small plate of food. This will train you not to starve and binge, eat out of boredom, and leave food on the plate.
If it's an occasion you're preparing for don't starve yourself you may feel good but that's because your stomach is flat. Drink fluids and take supplements these help moodiness when changing diets. I have radical ways to get into a dress but honestly it's not healthy for everyone. I would suggest skipping dinner the night before and concentrating on protein and greens the next day (not to get gross but anything that lowers water and waste retention is a good quick fix.)
There's a basic biological thing...
Everyone has a somewhat unique metabolism, so there's no one single answer. For most people, though, if you have a normal or slightly fast metabolism, you body will be "waiting" for more food 3-5 hours after the single meal. When you don't provide it with any -- even a tiny snack -- it gets desperate and begins to "eat up" muscle to get the needed nutrition. In addition, your body begins to store fat more aggressively because it does not know when the next meal is coming. So in the end, most people will end up with poor muscle tone and extra fat in its place. If you have a slower metabolism, and food stays in your system, for 6-10 hours, the effect actually won't be as bad.
Answer:
No. Eating Only one meal a day is BAD for your health. You do not need to starve yourself to lose weight. You can eat 3 meals a day, plus snacks. I did it, and lost 20 pounds.
Answer
Well duh! But don't you dare do you dare do it that way! It's bad for your health! It's just like smoking! Don't do it! You know, I eat a lot more food than a lot of people. I'm a kid, and yet, I eat more than adults do. But you know what? I'm very slim, I'm telling you, you would wish you had my body once you saw me. Just go on a diet. I eat lots of food, but the food's healthy. You could eat a lot, and you won't get fat. Just eat healthy, get your but off the couch, lift weights, and you'll see yourself get slim and buff.
no; not at all. In fact you might gain some weight. The scientific research shows that if you eat only one meal a day you metabolism will slow down and that means the calories you eat will probably be stored and not burned. And if you eat very little your body goes into starvation mode. meaning it doesn't know when it will eat again. So every single calorie you eat it will store it as fat. Just in case you don't eat for a while it will have enough food. Just lose wait the smart way and eat 6 small meals a day and exercise and you will lose weight at a decent; but healthy speed.
It is not good to eat one meal a day because your body will think that you are starving and then you will start storing food eat like 4 to 7 small meals a day and work out that is what i am doing and it is working for me so try it and I am also taking Hydroxycut and it is helping me out a lot .
I started to have one meal a day quite by accident. I had to have a routine blood test that required 12 hour fasting, and I didn't have time to go to the lab before heading to my office. I decided I'd be fine waiting to do the test after work, that I'd drink plenty of water - I couldn't even have coffee or tea because apparently that affects the blood panel. I was right. I had no problem (save for some rumbling) and in fact, noticed that I had plenty of energy all day, did my usual work-out (30 mins. on the elliptical upon rising) and 10,000 pedometer steps during the day without a drop in blood sugar. Anyway, with a goal of 10 pounds in mind, I decided to implement this program adding in only tea during the day with dinner at 6 pm. My dinner consists of 1000-1200 cal of fruit, veggies, rice/grain, legumes, tofu/seitan etc. (I'm vegan). I lost 9 lbs in 4.5 weeks. I have no idea if this is unhealthy or healthy, but I do feel wonderful and am thrilled to have lost this weight that I'd otherwise been unable to shake. No willpower. I'm now adding in more calories in the form of nuts, avocado etc. and my weight is stable. Most interesting, my husband has 45 -50 lbs to lose and has been unable to stick with anything at all even though he has been hearing from his doctor FOR YEARS that he must lose weight. He's in the obese range. He scoffed when I started this "crazy" diet but has now been on it for 3 weeks and has lost 8 pounds. He loves the fact that I have become a crazed, gourmet vegan cook (if you think there could there be such a thing!!). Not eating has obviously caused me to turn my food obsession into a cooking obsession - but this is a fun hobby. Also, this has nothing to do with being a vegan. There are plenty of chubby vegans!!
Hi everybody,
This topic made me so curious I tried it this weekend ( 9 and 10 th DEC). I don t have to lose weight ( 1M 72 - 58 kg), because all my life I m on a 1200 calorie diet. Mayor complaint about this diet : often feel frustrated when I go to restaurant and take weight the following day!!! I hate this, even if I choose a rather light diner ( grilled fish and vegetables
I tried this weekend one meal - a super huge brunch ( 2 bananas - 100 gram salmon with 200 Gram rye bread and butter, 3 scrambled eggs with tomatoes and mushrooms, 50 gram dried fruits, 10 gram dark chocolate, 300 ml soy milk, an extra green salad ( with 2 spoons olive oil). No physical outlet and 1,5 liter water and in the afternoon an ice tea light.
Results: - 1100 grams! and feeling fit psychical and very zen in my head.
Not that I will continue this one meal a day lifetime, but will definitely follow it during the coming holidays ( one big meal at the evening, so I will not feel frustrated at Christmas and New year and just can eat with the other family members) . Even so when I know I have social obligations as going to restaurant and family dinners. I will definitely eat the one meal a day to maintain my weight and avoid those extra gains the next morning.
Anyway , for me it works and even not so hard to follow it for a few days, I was really surprised that I could so.Have rather a low blood sugar level , and didn't feel dizzy at one moment.
Rather more easier for me because the snacks between the major meals, had rather a negative effect on me and made me feel more hungry than just not eating.
To the people who are rather skeptic to this diet, better eating one correct meal a day to lose weight than following unrealistic diets like the protein diet ( very expensive and you deprive yourself from social obligations), the banana diet, eggs diet,.... to lose weight. and so may other diets that are focused on eliminating other essential nutrients, with this diet I recommend to eat a very balanced one meal including all the food categories.
I will continue this diet for the next coming days, and will let you the results.

One meal a day is bad for you, and it is most impossible to fulfill the daily requirements all in one meal, unless you want to get sick and barf it all up afterward. I think the HA! I eat one meal a day lady is on something, because that is a complete fairy tale, not reality. And if she thinks she is all miss wonderful, just give it some more time she will be six feet under in no time. I doubt your doctor thinks your the healthiest person alive, he probably just wants some whether your actually attractive or not. First off if you have to exaggerate about yourself and give off major ego, then definitely you don't know what you are talking about. The brain needs more food than a cheap meal a day to function properly, maybe that's why you sound like a kook!
Signed, someone intelligent who can eat whatever and not gain an oz.
I have gained 15 lbs over the winter and I am not happy about it. I used to eat only one meal a day and I felt great. Over the winter and after my hysterectomy I started gaining weight so I started trying the special K diet and other diets that say eat 5 small meals a day. Well the weight never went away and I just gained more. Well I am done with that and I am going to go back to eating the one meal a day and see if I can lose this extra weight. I don't feel good about myself with this extra 15 lbs and it needs to come off. I will keep posted weekly on how I am doing. I am glad that I found this site. It just conforms what I have always thought that eating only one meal a day is the healthy way. After checking out this web page I am convinced that eating only one meal a day is a very healthy way to go about life. Good luck to everyone.
Hello Everyone
I've been eating one meal a day over three weeks now, and I have lost five pounds. I went from 140 to 135 , and I feel great!!! I drink a lot of water, and from time to time green tea (it really takes your hunger away). I run for 40 minutes every day and with just one meal a day, I feel so healthy!!! It takes a lot of patience and strength for the first two weeks, just to get your own organism use to this type of eating, but it is really worth it . When I felt really hungry I would go for a walk (or run) and drink a lot of water, or if you have time, just take a nap. After a while you just get use to it. So, don't give up !!! Keep it up, best wishes.
Will you lose weight on one meal a day? The scientific answer is; you might, or might not... Biologically, all you need for weight loss is a caloric deficit; that is, you need to eat less than you metabolize (burn). This is true for all living organisms, there are no exceptions on this planet. If that one meal is less calories than your diurnal (daily) metabolism, then you will lose weight. If that one meal is more than your diurnal metabolism, then you will gain weight. If they are equal, you will neither gain nor lose. Whether you eat once a day or 10 times a day, weight loss is dependent only on the caloric deficit. If there were an exception to this anywhere on this planet, then we could eliminate starvation, which is simply a prolonged, extreme caloric deficit. This is well understood in the diet, health, fitness and medical arenas. After this is understood, then we move on to what kind of weight are we losing, is fat body mass or lean body (muscle) mass. But that's for another discussion.
I have tried many ways. this is by far the easiest, fastest guaranteed way I have ever lost weight. I am starting again tomorrow since I have been stuffing myself for a month now.
I find that I lose weight so quickly when I eat only one meal a day. I can see a change in less than a week fitting into clothes (not on a scale). It is hard to get started but once you get use to it, you don't want more than one meal a day....in fact more feels worse. I am going to start this again tomorrow since I have been stuffing my face for a month. I know it works so I know I will lose in no time. cheers:)
Haterz wrote: I have started. I went from 242 to 236 , I am still on it, I work out at the gym at night. every other night to be exact. The food that I do eat, when its time 6:00 pm taste so much better. Before I was eating pointlessly, never being full. Now I eat once a day and the food is so good. I will be doing this for a long time, I actually KNOW what its like to feel hungry. Something that I didn't know because I had been stuffing my face with bs.
