Will your insurance company find out about a speeding ticket received in Canada? |

Answer
My information is that the state of New York is the only state that shares information with Ontario. The answer is no on both the state and insurance company but you can check with the Washington State Department of Motor Vehicles to be certain.

It is totally illegal for any insurance or motor vehicle agent in America to hold international convictions against you so if this has happened, DONT WORRY they cannot legally discriminate you on this basis and you have rights to protect you from such treatment.
Has this happened? I would consult an atteorney.
Answer
The agreement between New York and Ontario does exist and is not illegal.
Insurance companies have the right to consider all known risks about you before they insure you. But as long as you don't disclose anything extra, they can only go by the data in their system which will only include Ontario and only in NY.
Answer
On another note, if you don't pay the fine on the ticket, don't go back to Canada.
You may not make it through the border, and even if you do they can still hold that crime (along with any additional crimes tacked on since then) against you.
Answer
40 states have a reciprocal agreement with Ontario regarding traffic violations. I just found this out. Fortunately for me, I still have a Florida license and residence and it just so happens that Florida isn't part of this agreement(I got my first ticket in Mississauga, last night). If anyone is able to find out what states are included, please post.
