This is one of the many myths about the Oz film. There was no hanging on stage- on the film plane. There may have been some props that ( trees for example) in a distance looked like some Jury-Rigged Gallows. There was no execution by hanging in the film- which would have been taboo for anything kiddy oriented. Many people believe some character hung himself. No there was a staged hanging in the radio drama Candy Matson Yukon ( and a number, which was a telephone number) This involved a triple hanging of Bandits- on a hill, from a Western film being filmed in San Francisco. The mental image indelibly suggests the Biblical Calvary! This was a radio drama- not a movie- but the kiddy-sounding Candy Matson may have added to the confusion.
