Actually the term " pilot" comes from the time of sailing ships. A pilot was the person with the maps. In the 1500's all the explorers had to hire a pilot because they were the men with the maps. This began when Henry the Navigator began his school he trained the pilots.

Technically a pilot is anyone who has flown an airplane. In the USA, there are several different levels of pilot certificates. They go:Student Pilot Certificate (can fly solo with a flight instructor signoff)Private Pilot Certificate (can fly with passengers, not for hire)Commercial Pilot Certificate (can fly for hire)Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (can fly as a captain for charter and airline operations)So a "pilot" is not necessarily better or worse than a private pilot.
Captains of ships made a lot of money. Rich people would buy a ship and hire a captain to sail it. The ships were mainly involved in trading.
An aviation attorney would need to be hired if a plane crashed. They would need to stand up and make a case as to why the pilot is not at fault when the plane crashed.
Not usually. Pirates were sometimes given ships by governments that wanted to hire them, sometimes they were wealthy enough to have ships built for them, sometimes they just commandeered other ships.
The word pilot is a verb, a noun, or an adjective; not an adverb. Example uses:Verb: They hire someone with experience to pilot the ship through the canal.Noun: The pilot of the plane made the difficult landing look easy.Adjective: It was so successful as a pilot project that it became established procedure.
depending on the area you're in and the size of aircraft you're looking to start at about 100USD
Pirates stole treasure from ships out at sea-ships that were heading from India or China with silks and other popularly traded items. Practically any ship known or thought to have something valuable in it could be looted. They would also ransack towns and harbors. This was not as common because it was more dangerous. However, countries such as Britain, would hire pirates or privateers to plunder ships and towns of their enemy. Such as when Britain was feuding with Spain, British privateers would only attack Spanish ships and towns.
