All age groups drank fermented beverages at any time of day in areas where water was unsafe.

Similarly, medieval English children and adults in urban areas routinely drank beer from breakfast to supper, as did others worldwide where clean fresh water was unavailable.

Bear in mind that the beer we're talking about wouldn't usually have been the high-alcohol beverage which might now come to mind when we mention beer; for general, all-day consumption, a low-alcohol product would have been the norm.
