No because there are natural resevoirs for the influenza virus such as birds. Indeed, it is believed that most influenza orgininates in the far East due to the relatively close contact between people and fowl in that area of the world. Your question is a good one because were this not the case (such as with a disease like Smallpox) the virus could be eliminated.
