it is best not to mess with the temperature of the water... Goldfish like solid temperatures, it is best to keep the temperature around 75-78 degrees.

They are exothermic animals relying on the temperature (thermal energy) of the water to stay alive. Too hot and they run out of Oxygen and suffer from exhaustion and eventually die. This is because gases are more soluble in colder water. Too cold and their vital organs slow down and stop working and the fish dies. For Goldfish the best temperature is 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.

Goldfish, are, however more active in warm water, because the heat from the water increases their metabolisms. This actually decreases their lifespan and is dangerous.
Goldfish are more active in warm water than cold.

No. Goldfish do not maintain a constant body temperature. It is regulated by the water temperature.

* There are unusual fish such as the opah (moonfish) that generate internal heat, but even these are not "warm-blooded" in the sense of being homothermic.

Goldfish are ultimately coldwater carp, and are very capable of surviving, if not thriving, in cold water conditions. However, just as they wouldn't be able to handle extreme heat conditions, there is a limit to how low of temperatures a goldfish should be exposed. It is generally not recommended to allow a goldfish to live in temperatures under 55 degrees F. Temperatures below this will cause the goldfish to hibernate, and can potentially result in the death of the fish.

How long can an goldfish live with out food?

Goldfish are cold-blooded which means they don't need to eat as much as warmblooded animals who use a lot of energy to warm their bodies. A goldfish can go a week of more without eating. They won't starve to death like a warmblooded animal would but they will be hungry and stop growing. Once food is reintroduced, they will begin to grow again.
