Check the air inlet duct which leads into the air filter. Look for a split in the plastic ducting. If you open the air filter housing you may be able to see evidence of the water having been inside the casing. Another possible way for water to enter the crankcase would be via the dipstick funnel. This is the orange/yellow guide tube which the dipstick slides into. (I assume that this still exists on the 2002 models). It is a poorly designed component and is easily cracked in normal use. The heater coolant lines pass through the second firewall remove the clamps on the lines and pull them toward the front of the car about an inch.
