You can feel your heartbeat because as your heart pumps blood in contracts. This contraction is the "beat". When the beat is complete your heart muscles relax and the heart moves back to its resting position. This movement applies pressure to your respirtory cavity which can be felt.

∙ 14y agoIn a rare and strange phenomenon called 'cardiac aplacement', your heart can migrate through the thoracic cavity lower than it should-- giving it the feeling of beating in your stomach.
You should see a cardiac surgeon immediately if you can feel this.
Actually , most people can feel their pulse in their abdominal aorta at one time or another , especially if you are laying on your stomach on a hard surface or with your hands under your stomach. Please don't let the previous answer frighten you unecessarily . if you are concerned, discuss this with your doc on your next visit.

∙ 12y agowell since your heart isn't in your stomach then there is no way what so ever you will feel YOUR heart beat in your stomach ... so i think you might be pregnant and it's the babies heartbeat hope that helps!

Kidding! Theres a few things it can be. I have a heart mummer, this can be a cause sometimes, you can often feel it in yourself, your heart going a little bit faster. Then feeling breathless maybe. I also suffer from Anaemia, this causes a deeper heart beat.

its probably a pulse from a vein. you can't feel the baby's heart beat by touching your stomach.
