You should have a heavy red wire going to the back of the alternator, it should have 12 volts, it will excite the alternator, thus allowing it to charge your battery. If the doesn't have 12 volt, trace the wire, I believe that it will end at the starter.

If you have 12 volts at this wire, most likely you have a fusable link that's shorted out at the starter. Look for a wire at the starter that appears burnt, or wiggle the wires one at a time, you'll find on that feels like a plain rubberband, with no resistance while wiggling.

There could be something draining your battery. With everything switched off, use an ammeter in line with your main battery terminal. Anything more than 250mA drain means there is a problem. Some vehicles have a small current usage, for an alarm system, computer or radio memory.
Favourite culprit is an interior or trunk light.
If you find a current drain, remove each fuse in turn to find the likely circuit involved.

There is no problem...the problem was the alternator. You have fixed the problem.

How does your car sound if you put in a battery after a month?

If your question is what may be a problem with a car that you have to change the battery after a new battery was installed a month ago? Then the alternator may be suspect and or a draw from the electrical system.

I recently installed a new stereo system into my car now my car sounds like my battery is weak is it my battery that I have to change or my alternator?

Check the battery with a vom meter while the engine is running. It should read about 14.5 volts and if so the alternator is working, than have the battery checked Now if the meter does not read 14.5 volts, have the battery, and the alternator checked. If they both check out okay, the problem is in the battery or the alternator circuit on the vehicle.

Why isn't the rebuilt alternator charging that I put in my 1996 Ford Taurus GL?

Does your Bat warning light stay on or if you have a Voltage gauge what does it read. Was your battery fully charged before you installed your new alternator? Remove alternator and have it tested to besure that it was indeed the problem.

What is the problem when your change the alternator and its still not charging the battery?

Obviously check the battery. Anyway, if the alternator, battery, and wires connecting them are good the voltage regulator is next on the list.

How do you tell if the alternator is outon a 1999 kia spehia?

A quick way to tell if there might be a problem with an alternator is to remove the positive side battery cable from the battery while the vehicle is idling. If the engine dies, odds are there is an alternator problem.

Can a battery with to many cold cranking amps burn up an alternator in a 2001 vw bug?

"Big" Battery Damage Alternator? No, it should not damage the alternator. If this has happened it's probable that the problem is somewhere in the wiring circuit connected to the battery and alternator.

What is wrong with the battery if it wont stay charged with a new alternator on a Chrysler 5Th avenue?

Your alternator is probably rebuilt and not really new. I have had this problem several times and I have bought a new battery and alternator. The alternator keeps your battery charged and powers your electrical system, so even when driving you can lose all power in the car from the alternator draining your battery. Take the battery and alternator to an auto store and they will test both for free. Ask them about the difference in a rebuilt alternator and a brand new one. This is a very common problem.

Why would your battery light flicker on and off?

Possible alternator problem

Would a weak battery be the cause of a hesitation when turning on ignition?

Could be. But it might be an alternator problem instead of a batery problem. You need a good alternator to keep the bttery recharged. I wouldn't run out and buy a battery without getting the alternator checked.

What does it mean when the battery light comes on a 1997 dodge avenger?

have an alternator, battery, and electrical check to find out what the problem is. battery may not be taking a charge, or the alternator is not putting out enough voltage.

Why would your battery light stay on after you have put in a new battery and alternator?

The battery light comes on when the alternator output voltage is too low or too high. You have a wiring or regulator problem. The battery light comes on when the alternator output voltage is too low or too high. You have a wiring or regulator problem.
