You received an email promotion stating that you won a new car how you do you prove or disprove the legitimacy of this promotion? |
Answer
Most of the emails that state you have won a prize are in fact ways to get you to reveal sensitive information. Really good tip offs are:
You have won prize x, to receive prize x you need to send 100.00 dollars to cover transfer fees. (or some other variant of this)
You have won prize x, to receive prize x, you need to send us your name and social security number to verify you identity.
When in doubt you can Google email hoaxes and look for you particular email. And the absolute thing to remember is the old phrase your mother used to tell you: "If its too good too be true, it probably is."
