An 18-year-old is legally considered an adult. Your granddaughter doesn't need to be adopted because she is no longer a child. She is already your relative. At the age of 18 it is time that she learns to survive on her own.

∙ 15y agoMy 18 year old granddaughter has lived with me all her life. We mutually want to go ahead with adoption, as she wants to have me and my late husband on her birth certificate. We live in West Virginia. There is no info on the birth father, and the birth mother's whereabouts is unknown. How do we go about this? Can we file the paperwork ourselves since she is 18?

They will help you fill out the paper work and everything.
