1. the child may also have a concomitant viral infection - remember, viruses DO NOT respond to antibiotics 2. the child is not taking the prescribed dose 2-3 times a day, or 3. the level of amoxicillin is not reaching the blood stream in a large of enough quantity to kill the throat strept microbes - in this case, your pediatrician would either have to increase the dose of amoxil or change to a more potent medication (ie, augmentin).
