I have a Dell Inspiron computer with operating system Vista Home Premium and I'm having trouble with my CD drive. It will not read most CDs, it will play the music CDs, but when I try to copy data, it says insert CD when a CD is already inserted. I've tried CD-RWs, an auto save photo CDs which I just purchased and they do not work. The drive does not recognize them. You can't put a PS1 disc in your PC, it depends if your computer allows video game systems
Windows 7 can read CDs in this format. You may need to change settings to get the CD to auto-run, but it will be able to be read by the computer.
The hole in the CD is where the machine you put it in "grips" the CD so the disk can be spun and thus read and used.

By work do you mean will you be able to read the CD? If so, yes, it will work. You will be able to access date, movies, music etc. If you mean can you install Mac programs on a CD onto a PC the answer is no.

I've read once that someone installed the program on a CD, and ran the application from the CD. How that works is beyond me.
the CD drive has lasers which read the CD, so the CD has pieces that can be read.
A CD has microscopic pits and ridges that a CD drive can read. In order to read these pits, the drive has a laser that fires at the bottom of the CD and detects those pits and ridges. It then sends that raw data to the computers proccesser or motherboard, which decodes the data into a form the computer can use.
A CD ROM is a standard compact disc containing data to be read by a digital device, such as a CD player or PC CD-ROM drive. A CD-R is a compact disc which data can be recorded, or burned (hence the term "burning cds). Usually, CD-R's are one shot deals meaning they can recorded until they are either filled up (usually 700 MB) or finalized. CD-R's whether filled up or not cant be read by a digital device until finalized.
They can play Cd-r's , example : a Cd-r that was copied & or burned from a pc. But , They can not play CD'S / software CD's (made) for a pc. jkvssc
