That is usually something like a map sensor, throttle position sensor, EGR valve or who knows what. Run a computer diagnostic scan to find out which might be causing problems for you.

When you stop at a stop light or your car is in park it idles rough kind of a pulsating idle instead of smooth and you smell antifreeze when you get out the car but no engine light is on What is Wrong?

Ask this question again specifying what the car is.

600 to 1000 revolutions per minute (RPMs) is the typical average for idle.

If the transmission is in need of service will it cause the car to idle and run rough at low rpms yet run smooth at high rpms?

Probably because the compressor is cycling on and off to maintain temperature without freezing. Compressor on car runs slower RPM, compreesor cuts out and RPMs go up.

Your 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport sputters after leaving a stop or sometimes idles very rough?

Perhaps you have a leak in your transmission. Check the transmission fluid while the car is running. DO NOT check any other fluids while the engine is running.

Rough idle runs rough Lincoln town car 1998?

I have 1998 a Lincoln town car with the same problem.. It idles rough when you start, then smooths out once it warms up and you give it gas. From what I am reading its either an oxygen sensor or you have vacume leak in one of your hoses by the manifold.

Why does your auto transmission stop moving the car after it warms up if you turn off engine and restart it moves about 300 to 400 feet then stops again?

It is because of how fast the car idles. When you start the car it is idling high and when the engine warms up it slows the idle to about 650 RPMs and the torque converter in your transmission is slipping and not moving you forward at that low an RPM. what causes the torque converter to slip? CAn it be a sensor problem?

Why does your 92 Saturn SL2 idle so high at a stop or in park 1000 rpm in park is it the timing you had a new fuel filter fuel pump spark plugsIt is vibrating and shakes the steering wheel and dash?

If it idles high when you first stop and then slowly drops, I've found that replacing the PCV valves helps clear this up. I had this problem for a few weeks, my car idling high every time a slowed down and came to a stop. Following replacement of PCV, car runs much smoother and gas mileage improved by about 10%. ------------------------------ 1K rpm is NOT high for a cold start up. Normal operating rpms however should be near 800-900 rpms. You do NOT have a burnt valve since your car runs, just idles high. You more than likely do NOT have a vacum leak as they lead to 2-3K rpms at idle. Replace your Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Yours is stock and cracks sending bad datat to the PCM. PCM uses this sensor for idle rpms, air/fuel mixtures, and other systems. $17 at the dealer. Clean your throttle body including your IAC valve also.

Can to much oil make the check engine light come on and idle rough?

To much oil in an engine can cause it to flood which will then lead to blowing seals. But it should not effect how the car idles.
