Your down shift cable doesn't work on your 1999 Toyota?

[Edit]

Was your shifter a bit stiff for a while before it broke? Mine was, until one day, it seemed to work really easy. Unfortunately, the cable broke at the transmission, so I couldn't put it into gear. I guess you just can't have it all.

Open your hood, look down to the right. There's a cable running down to your transmission, probable with a black ribbed boot on it. It may appear to be connected, but move it aside at the bottom. If it's not connected, it's broken.

I rigged something up to get it going, but I'm going to have to get out every time to put it into park. Does that make my automatic a semi-automatic now? :)))

Good luck, happy trails, and all that other stuff,
