Buy an alarm system for your house and lug locks for your wife's car. Try to rent to your house to someone and live somewhere else even if you have to live with friends or family for a while. The real estate market isn't going to improve anytime soon, so LEASE IT TO SOMEONE. If the bak is threatening foreclosure, try to negotiate with them, they don't want real estate any more than anyone else does right now.
