Your neighbor's lights dim as do your own when your AC compressor cycles on what would cause this?

Your power supply will fluctuate small amounts without you even noticing. But when the lights start dimming then you could be getting into the amount of fluctuation that can cause damage. Since you said your neighbors house dims when your a/c comes on, (you must have a huge a/c!) I would wonder if both houses are wired to the same transformer at the road (from the power company). And that transformer is either weak or too small. I would notify the power company and have them come check it out and make sure there isn't a problem with the transformer. Dave: Thanks for the reply. Yes, my neighbor and 8 other new homes are on one Transformer, which has been checked by the local utility. They say the drop in voltage is 50% below the guideline, but will not say it's the transformer, the secondary wiring or the builders design spec's being too low to handle the start up load. Any more ideas about the most probable cause or how to determine it? Thnaks, Joe First answer is right- keep on them until they do something about it. A feed that serves 8 houses should not be overloaded by one A/C unit surge.
