Bedskirts are a great decorating accessory for any bedroom. Available in a variety of styles to suite any dcor, not only do bedskirts add flair to the bedroom, they also keep the sides of the box spring covered and allow for hidden storage under the bed.The main problem with bedskirts is the difficulty of getting one into place. Often designed to completely cover the box spring, the heavy mattress must be removed and then carefully placed back into position once the bedskirt is laid atop the box spring. Positioning a bedskirt doesn’t have to be difficult, however. With a few modifications and some safety pins or corkscrew pins, any bed can be dressed with minimal fuss.1) Modify the Skirt – Cut the skirt from the platform portion of the bedskirt leaving at least two inches of platform fabric with which to work. If necessary to prevent the cut edge from raveling, use pinking shears or finish the raw edges by machine using a zigzag or other edge finishing stitch.2) Attach the Bedskirt at the Foot of the Bed – Starting across the foot of the bed, tuck the bedskirt into place between the mattress and box spring, adjusting so that it falls to the desired distance from the floor. At the corners make any adjustments necessary for proper fit. Use safety pins or corkscrew pins placed about six inches apart and at each corner to secure the bedskirt to the fabric on the box spring.3) Attach the Bedskirt on Each Side of the Bed – Working from the foot of the bed to the head, continue tucking the bedskirt into place between the mattress and box spring. Complete one side and then the other, attaching securely with pins once proper placement has been achieved.4) Adjust the Bedskirt for Better Fit – In the event that the bedskirt is too long for the bed, simply wrap the excess around at the head of the bed and adjust fullness or fashion pleats to accommodate the corners. Pin securely into place.5) Use Thumbtacks as an Alternative to Pins – If the mattress is placed atop a wooden platform rather than a box spring, thumbtacks maybe used to attach the bedskirt to the wood.
