How to Contribute

Know the basics

The simplest way to contribute to WikiAnswers is by asking or answering questions. Read further for more details.

• Ask a question

Ask anything. If your question has already been asked and answered you'll see the answer immediately. If it's new, other contributors will try to help.

• Get tips on Asking Questions.
• See a question that might be beneficial to others? Recommend it! Read more about Question Popularity.
• Answer a question

Everyone is an expert on something; share your knowledge!

• Get tips on Answering Questions.
• See how you can find questions to answer. Two places to do this are Recent Questions or Browse Categories.
• Review the WikiAnswers Stylebook for answering guidelines and etiquette.
• You can Pre-Answer a question, too.

Put the 'wiki' in WikiAnswers

Asking and answering questions is what 99% of our visitors do, but it's just the beginning. Our mission is to transform the individual exchange of information into valuable information resources for the entire world using the wiki format.

Please join in! Many of us find these activities addicting and enjoy participating so much that we spend hours on it. But it only takes a few minutes; there's something for everyone.

• Improve answers

Add new information, remove something incorrect, or just fix a spelling mistake. Great answers are grown one contribution at a time:

• Browse categories to find questions that interest you.
• Patrol for vandals and Remove Answers.
• Find out more about Editing.
• Improve questions

Questions can be improved, too. Some need a lot of help with spelling and grammar. Questions can also be made more universal or generic. This way they are more likely to help lots of people instead of just one person.

• Browse new questions to get started.
• Pre-Answer questions

If you have knowledge to share, ask and answer your own question. When someone else asks it or browses the question he or she will see your answer.

• Start Pre-Answering.
• Categories
• Create a New Category: What's your niche interest? Start an entirely new section for it.
• Or, Maintain a Category and help it grow.
• Add your opinion

You can voice your opinion when you come across a user who you think did a great job answering or editing. Click the Recommend Contributor link, which appears next to a username at the bottom of an answer. The user will then be awarded Trust Points.

Become a Supervisor

You can become a Supervisor and watch over your favorite category. Also, Supervisors have almost all the same powers as the webmaster. Interested? Become a Supervisor.
