Possibilities are low coolant, defective radiator, leaky hoses, blown head gasket...
bad radiator cap leaky radiator leaky hose(s) bad water pump blown head gasket clogged cats stuck thermostat
whistling noise from engine will be caused by a leaky gasket, sucking air. this is usually the intake manifold gasket
You may have a leaky gasket or seal somewhere. Not unusual for a high mileage or abused engine.
If the valve cover is leaking it may let oil flow down the head and make the Head gasket appear to be leaking. Clean the engine and then use oil dye or watch for leaks. If there is a coolant leak it is not the valve cover.
Possibly a leaky valve cover gasket allowing oil to seep out and down on to exhaust manifold.
If you have coolant on the top of the engine it could be a leaky thermostat housing or a leaking intake gasket.
Cooling fan not working? Thermostat not opening? Plugged radiator? Water pump not working? Defective radiator cap? you have to bleed the thermostat
the signs of a valve cover leak are oil on the engine oil is the only thing that can leak from a leaky valve cover
Until the engine self destructs and locks up. You do not drive a car with a leaking head gasket unless you want to destroy the engine. STOP running this engine until it can be repaired.
depends on how you take care of it. I have 155,000 on mine and have had no issues except for a leaky valve cover gasket which was fixed 60,000 miles ago.
