∙ 13y agoThe International Chili Society insists that chili does not have beans. The rest of the world goes about happily enjoying beans in their chili. This is a hotly disputed topic, as there is no organization with actual power or authority to define chili. Chili con carne, by definition includes meat, as con carne means "with meat."

∙ 13y agoKidney beans are just that--kidney beans. They're packaged with a bit of salt and water, but that's it. Chili beans are pinto beans, but instead of just salt and water, they're packaged in a 'chili sauce'.

∙ 11y agoIf your making chili as in the soup, kidney beans will work as a substitute. I actually prefer kidney beans.
I use kidney for chili and soak them the night before cooking. Put them in a crock pot for a day of cooking and when you get home from work you have a good meal. I use the leftovers to make burritos.
