I have heard that it does but I do not know if it is true. But there have also been studies showing that it can help prevent SIDS.

Another Answer:

A child who uses a pacifier too long and while the teeth are forming can have their teeth become "bucked". There have been children who were still using pacifiers at age three. They often have bucked teeth. It is wise to discontiue the use of the pacifier when the child discontines breast feeding or bottle feeding. Some parents use it to pacify crying rather than resolve the problem the child has at the time. This teaches the child that whining and fussing will result in a pacifier or food rather than having his or her parent/adult help or guide the child with their problem. Many children on pacifiers can speak. It is better to teach the child to explain as best as he or she can what is bothering him or her. The over use of pacifiers can cause distorted speech and leave the child needing speech therapy later in life. Have the child remove the pacifier when it wants to speak, do not interprate the child's speech around the pacifier, this way you will naturally correct the child's pronunciation if it is incorrect. It is ok to use pacifiers on newborns and small babies since they don't have their teeth in and often just need a little comfort.

When a child is put in bed with a Pacifier should it be removed from his mouth?

Depending on the age of the child. If the child has teeth then some dentists and doctors feel that pacifiers will push the front teeth forward However, these are baby teeth and it shouldn't matter at all. Good Pacifiers are safe and if your child feels secure with one then allow it until they decide they no longer need it.
