A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:

In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered to the mainboard, though there is a spring mechanism that you push to lift most CMOS batteries out of the circular dock, . If this does not work, use another method.

Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.

When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.

Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

B. By Using Software:

I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:

BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. Simply boot your PC to DOS and execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just seconds

A bios password is the final protection of a computer. If someone decides to use it there had better be a good place to keep the password because you won't be able to do much without it. A stolen computer with an unknown BIOS password is pretty useless.

You don't !, The BIOS has to be reset. The BIOS battery has to be removed for approx. 1 hour. BIOS Battery is not the same as the regular battery , for those none techy. The BIOS battery is normally hidden in a compartment, it's a wafer style battery.

there have been many serious cases that they face, especially me, if the hardware is IBM Lenovo notebook brand laptops terpassword in the bios, while the user had forgotten the password previously created. any goods held in vain and can not be used again. it is very unfortunate if the largest manufacturers such as Lenovo company could not provide the best solution for free without conditions. and posted at the site to help many owners and users of terpassword lenovo bios. this is one reason why more consumers now choose other brands than ibm lenovo series.

Lenovo may at a later date will actually feared by candidates for its consumer.

You could try removing the cmos battery, waiting 10-25 minutes then replace it. Some manufacturers have backup or workaround passwords: AMI BIOS Backdoor Passwords: * A.M.I. * AAAMMMII * AMI * AMI?SW * AMI_SW * BIOS * CONDO * HEWITT RAND * LKWPETER * MI * Oder * PASSWORD Award BIOS Backdoor Passwords: * (eight spaces) * 01322222 * 589589 * 589721 * 595595 * 598598 * ALFAROME * ALLY * ALLy * aLLY * aLLy * aPAf * award * AWARD PW * AWARD SW * AWARD?SW * AWARD_PW * AWARD_SW * AWKWARD * awkward * IOSTAR * CONCAT * CONDO * Condo * condo * d8on * djonet * HLT * J256 * J262 * j262 * j322 * j332 * J64 * KDD * LKWPETER * Lkwpeter * PINT * pint * SER * SKY_FOXSYXZ * SKY_FOX * syxz * SYXZ * TTPTHA * ZAAAADA * ZAAADA * ZBAAACA * ZJAAADC Russian Award BIOS Passwords: * %øåñòü ïpîáåëîâ% * %äåâÿòü ïpîáåëîâ% Phoenix Backdoor BIOS Passwords: * BIOS * CMOS * phoenix * PHOENIX Other Manufcaturers Backdoor Passwords: (manufacturer name - password) * VOBIS and IBM - merlin * Dell - Dell * Biostar - Biostar * Compaq - Compaq * Enox - xo11nE * Epox - central * Freetech - Posterie * IWill - iwill * Jetway - spooml * Packard Bell - bell9 * QDI - QDI * Siemens - SKY_FOX * SOYO - SY_MB * TMC - BIGO * Toshiba - Toshiba Other than that, you must be cautios because 3 wrong answers and you may lose all the info on the hdd. If none of this works you will most likely need to reformat or take the machine to a shop that may have software like iBios or the like. Last option would be to reformat.

Remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard for approximately 5 seconds. Reinstall the battery, and attempt to entire the BIOS.

Removing the battery clears any custom settings and reverts the BIOS settings to their factory state. You may need to re-customize your settings after the reset.

How do you turn off laptop without logging off?

When you go to shut it down, choose either the "Hibernate" or "Standby" options. Hibernate saves the entire contents of memory to the hard drive and allows you to turn off the laptop completely. Standby turns off the hard drive and CPU, and puts the laptop into a low-power mode. Both methods may still prompt for a password when you resume your session, so change your Power options so that it does not prompt for a password on resume.
